Here are some cool tools you can use during your 2272b class:
- Express Assist - a utility to backup and restore your Outlook Express mail and news data and settings. If you reinstall often, and use OE, this tool is invaluable. This tool is free for evaluation, but costs US$ 29.95 for the full version.
- ISO Recorder - this fantastic freeware tool enables you to dump an ISO file directly to CD as well as to create an ISO image of an existing CD. You can use this to create backups of your key software CDs. A version that works with audio CDs being developed.
- XP Power Toys - A free set of useful tools/utilities that were created by the XP develoeprs in their spare time. They are, however, unsupported by Microsoft.
- System Mechanic - from Iolo streamlines your registry to remove outdated or invalid references.
- Server Administration Tools - these beta tools enable administrators to remotely manage Windows 2000 Servers from Windows XP Professional machines. Before using, see the related KB article!
- Media Player Bonus Pack - As Microsoft put it: this is "Jam-packed with utilities, PowerToys, visualizations, skins, sound effects, and much more, the free Windows Media Bonus Pack installs on your Windows XP-based PC and lets your personality and creativity shine." the full download is 18.2 MB.
- Logon Loader - makes the task of swapping logon screens easy. Simply select a new logon screen file and you're set! You can even preview your logon screens before selecting the one you want. Logon Loader also has the ability to randomly select a logon screen every time you log on.
- Ashton Shell - this firm has two products: Aston (a new desktop manager and shell replacement) and AltDesk (a Virtual Desktop Manager with skin support. Both are cool!
