How to Set-up DNS
In order to host your own web site


This page will contain details about setting up DNS in order to host your own web site.

Overview

The process is really pretty simple:

1. Register your domain name, for example, RESKIT.NET. You must contact a domain registrar. We use Total Resistrations who are OK.

2. Once registered, you must next determine the IP address you will allow those out in the internet to use to access your server. You get this IP address from your ISP.  

3. You next install a DNS server on your system, somewhere where the Internet can get to it. Create a zone of your domain, and a www record (eg www.reskit.net) pointing to your DNS server.

4. Tell the registrar the IP address of your DNS server.  For some registrars, you can do this on line - as we do with Total Registrasions.

5. Sit back and wait  - it can take several hours before you start getting a service.
